It Happened One Night It Happened One Night

A 1934, black and white movie directed by Frank Capra.  Staring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
A romantic, screwball comedy that follows the adventure of a pair of opposites as they journey from Florida to New York.  The movie's heroine, Ellie is a rich socialite on the run from  her father on her way to her meet her fortune hinter husband.  Angry that her father wants to have her marriage annulled, she takes off and hops onto a bus heading north.  There she meets a recently fired journalist, Peter, who realizes stumbling onto her flight could be the story that gets him back on top.  Together the duo set off on an adventure that will change both of their lives forever.

Why I wanted to watch this movie:  Two reasons.  One it was highly recommended and two, Clark Gable.

As a former film student, I love movies.  I loved being able to watch the "classics" and discussing them.  It was fascinating learning how the standouts in the industry influenced and changed the industry until we have what we see now.  Some of my favorite movies were made long before I was ever born, before my parents were born.  To me, what makes a "classic" movie great is it's ability to appeal to a new generation of movie goers.

It Happened One Night is no exception.  The cast is amazing, the story is believable and identifiable.  Watching the movie, you quickly find yourself immersed into the story.  All together you forget that is is in black and white, and instead you focus on the fun story.

I find it interesting that the movie was nominated for 5 academy awards and won all five.  (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Writing - Adaptation.
