When I first started blogging back in October of 2012.....I made some mistakes.

  • I treated the blog (then called Once Upon A Dream Books) more like a journal or watered down version of one of my old websites.
I didn't really have a plan or a structure to fall back on. It was kind of whatever I thought to review for that day. I added a few tricks into the posts (like tables) but never really went anywhere with them.

Paper Bindings - Where The Blogging Magic Happens - A Tour of My Desk

This week I thought it would be cool to give you guys a little behind the scenes glimpse into my bookish life.

Book wise, aside from whatever space I plop down to read at, my desk is where I spend the most time.

Many years ago I had a desk but I got rid of it to add more bookshelves. My "desk" for the next few years was either a tiny folding table or whatever space I could steal on the kitchen counter.

I suppose that was better than nothing when I wanted to sit down and write some, but having no permanent desk space is a big downfall to having a blog. I had no room to expand and place all the my notes I needed for the day's work. When I wanted quiet to work and another family member wanted to watch tv, guess who always lost the battle?

Paper Bindings - A Quick Look At My Owned Unread TBR and The Truth About Being A Book Hoarder - "If you take a look at my Goodreads Owned Shelf, you'll see that I have a slight book hoarding problem. At present, there are 261 books on there..."

If you take a look at my Goodreads Owned Shelf, you'll see that I have a slight book hoarding problem. At present, there are 261 books on there.

I said "slight" problem, only because at the start of the year, there were over 300 books on my shelves that I owned and had not read yet. I managed to read or get rid of about 140 books since January 1st.

We just won't tell anyone that I added 65 new books too.

Instagram: Then and Now

Paper Bindings - Instagram: Then and Now - How my photos and numbers have changed since I joined Instagram and my goals for the future.

Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None

In case you haven't realized it, envy is my sin. I've always wanted to be that kid that excelled at EVERYTHING, had EVERYTHING, and preened under the spotlight of my adoring fans.

I get antsy when someone is better than me at some random thing I've never tried before in my life. So naturally I must then become an expert at it. Except, I'm bouncing from craft to hobby to sport -well, no, never sports- so frequently, I never excel at any of them.

Two Things Blogger Does On Its Own That Annoys Me and Their Simple Fixes

Paper Bindings - Two Things Blogger Does On Its Own That Annoys Me and Their Simple Fixes : "Out of the four of us here at Paper Bindings, I am the one with the most HTML/CSS knowledge. So I am the one called upon to save the post whenever the coding goes astray."

Out of the four of us here at Paper Bindings, I am the one with the most HTML/CSS knowledge. So I am the one called upon to save the post whenever the coding goes astray.

Which happens a lot.

Because Blogger has a tendency to do whatever it wishes with the coding while you work in the 'compose' screen

Personally, I tend to write my posts in the html section for this reason.

For me, writing in html it is also:
  • Faster because I do not have to go back and fix as many (if any) html issues.
  • Simpler because what I type is what I get.
  • Easy because that is the way my mind works when I am trying to design a post in my head.

HTML All Book Bloggers Need To Know In Order To Be Successful - Plus Free Cheat Sheets

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Paper Bindings - HTML All Book Blogger Needs To Know In Order To Be Successful - My backstory and codes I cannot live without.

When I first started working with coding, there was a little thing called Geocities.

The website allowed anyone to create a free website. Fansites for anything and everything popped up overnight. Some were good, most not so much. But if you knew what you were doing, you could really create a site that stood out.

During my 'Fansite Years,' I dedicated myself to learning all I could about HTML and Photoshop. I used frames, mastered tables, and dreamed in html. By myself, I coded and designed every single aspect of that website, and turned it into something I could really be proud of.

If something broke, I fixed it. If I couldn't get something to work the first time, I played with the coding until it did. (Always on a separate file so I would never mess up my design irrevocably in my attempts.)

Life, Book, and Blogging News

Life wise

2016 has been quite the year so far. Some of it good, some of it bad, and all of it forcing me to reevaluate something in my life. So I spent April focusing on me and the things I needed to work my way through. Which ultimately meant, I had some things to figure out blogging wise. But we'll get to that later.
