Tisha: Book 4.5 stars, Film 4 stars
Tracy: Book Not Read, Film 3.5 stars
BookTisha: As with most film adaptions the movie does not quite include everything from the book - most specifically Clark's backstory. I can see why it was chosen to be taken out, but I did feel it took away some of the great dept of Lou. At first glimpse Louisa Clark seems like the ideal "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" - she fun, upbeat and dresses in wild clothes. She's in her mid-twenties, but has never done anything significant with her life or loved anyone - she's been stagnant. However, what is great about Me Before You is that Will changes Lou more than she changes him.
FilmTisha: The best things about the film are Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and her and Sam Claflin (Hunger Games series)'s chemistry. It also helps that Jojo Moyes who wrote the book also wrote the screenplay for the film - so everything that I loved about the book is in the film.
Tracy: I haven’t read the book but I found the movie well done for the most part. The characters are fun and interesting and their attraction to each other is believable. I liked how Will was a bit of a pill at first, but gradually he and Louisa become friends and then eventually something else. Nathan, Will’s nurse, is also a good character and I like the chemistry and friendship between the three.
Me Before You is a complex story with no easy answers. However, the characters are realistic and so, so compelling.
