Your guide to what's happening at Paper Bindings.

The What's What

After knocking a huge hole into my Wall of Shame last month, I was hoping to spend September keeping up the momentum. My goal was to get under 200 owned and unread books by the end of the month. Somehow that number makes it feel more manageable.

I spent some time this month working on the behind the scenes stuff I needed to steady before moving forward. I think I'm spreading myself too thin in my day-to-day life and I needed to figure out what blogging/bookstagram things I'm keeping and which I am going to let go for the betterment of Paper Bindings and myself.

Part Two: Let’s Organize Our TBR Pile!

Earlier this week, I showed you how to clean up your Wall of Shame TBR pile and input it into Goodreads.

Now, for some, that is going to be enough to keep them organized and ready to read. But if you’re like me, you’ll want lists: List of series your reading, lists of books you’ve read, list of books you still need to read, etc.

There are as many combinations of methods to organizing your books as there are readers out there.

New to the Wall of Shame (AKA TBR pile)

I got two books from Nalini Singh's Psy-Changling series that I have been reading. One book I have already read, but wanted to own for my collection. The other I haven't had the opportunity to read before.

I also got the first three manga volumes of S.A. I haven't read the series, but it came highly recommended to me.

I spend about $15 for all 5 books at the used book store, and all are like-new quality. No secret that the manga volumes were the bulk of that, but considering I got to use my credit there too, I did okay.

“In the movie version of Amelia’s life, the roles have always been clear. Her older brother, Toby: definitely the Star. As popular with the stoners as he is with the cheerleaders, Toby is someone you’d pay ten bucks to watch sweep Battle of the Bands and build a “beach party” in the bathroom. As for Amelia? She’s Toby Anderson’s Younger Sister. She’s perfectly happy to watch Toby’s hijinks from the sidelines, when she’s not engrossed in one of her elaborately themed Netflix movie marathons.

But recently Toby’s been acting in a very non-movie-version way. He’s stopped hanging out with his horde of friends and started obsessively journaling and disappearing for days at a time. Amelia doesn’t know what’s happened to her awesome older brother, or who this strange actor is that’s taken his place. And there’s someone else pulling at her attention: a smart, cute new boyfriend who wants to know the real Amelia—not Toby’s Sidekick. Amelia feels adrift without her star, but to best help Toby—and herself—it might be time to cast a new role: Amelia Anderson, leading lady.”

“Aspiring reporter Piper Baird decides to write a scathing exposé on the overprivileged students at an elite Washington, DC, school, only for her life to change when she begins to fall for the story's main subject, in this new realistic contemporary romance from Brodi Ashton, the author of the Everneath trilogy.

Raucous parties, privileged attitudes, underage drinking, and diplomatic immunity...it’s all part of student life on Embassy Row.

Piper Baird has always dreamed of becoming a journalist. So when she scores a scholarship to exclusive Chiswick Academy in Washington, DC, she knows it’s her big opportunity. Chiswick offers the country’s most competitive prize for teen journalists—the Bennington scholarship—and winning will ensure her acceptance to one of the best schools in the country.

Piper isn’t at Chiswick for two days before she witnesses the intense competition in the journalism program—and the extreme privilege of the young and wealthy elite who attend her school. And Piper knows access to these untouchable students just might give her the edge she’ll need to blow the lid off life at the school in a scathing and unforgettable exposé worthy of the Bennington.

The key to the whole story lies with Rafael Amador, the son of the Spanish ambassador—and the boy at the center of the most explosive secrets and scandals on Embassy Row. Rafael is big trouble—and when he drops into her bedroom window one night, asking for help, it’s Piper’s chance to get the full scoop. But as they spend time together, Piper discovers that despite his dark streak, Rafael is smart, kind, funny, and gorgeous—and she might have real feelings for him. How can she break the story of a lifetime if it could destroy the boy she just might love?”

Monsters.

Long ago, the barriers between our world and the Otherworld were ripped open, and it’s taken centuries to bring back civilization in the wake of the catastrophe. Now, the luckiest Cits live in enclosed communities, behind walls that keep them safe from the hideous creatures fighting to break through. Others are not so lucky.

To Joyeaux Charmand, who has been a Hunter in her tight-knit mountain community since she was a child, every Cit without magic deserves her protection from dangerous Othersiders. Then she is called to Apex City, where the best Hunters are kept to protect the most important people.

Joy soon realizes that the city’s powerful leaders care more about luring Cits into a false sense of security than protecting them. More and more monsters are getting through the barriers, and the close calls are becoming too frequent to ignore. Yet the Cits have no sense of how much danger they’re in—to them, Joy and her corps of fellow Hunters are just action stars they watch on TV.

When an act of sabotage against Joy takes an unbearable toll, she uncovers a terrifying conspiracy in the city. There is something much worse than the usual monsters infiltrating Apex. And it may be too late to stop them…”

When Nina discovers that Mellie is keeping a secret that threatens their very existence, she'll do anything to protect her. Because in New Temperance, sins are prosecuted as crimes by the brutal Church and its army of black-robed exorcists. And Mellie's sin has put her in serious trouble.

To keep them both alive, Nina will need to trust Finn, a fugitive with deep green eyes who has already saved her life once and who might just be an exorcist. But what kind of exorcist wears a hoodie?

“Mara Dyer wants to believe there's more to the lies she’s been told.
There is.

She doesn’t stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead.

She will now.

Paper Bindings | 3 Things That Stopped Me From Creating My Own Graphics | Guest Post - Rebecca From Unbound Pages

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be guest-posting today on Carrie's blog! Before we get started, a little about me. I'm Rebecca and I blog over at Unbound Pages. I've been blogging for a little over three years now. I started out as just your standard book blogger (if there is such a thing) and now I'm a resource for book bloggers trying to grow their blogs. Other important things: I love pizza. I pretend I'm a runner. I love zumba. If I could have one superpower it would be flight. And I wish I could have a pet dragon.

“From New York Times bestselling author Katie MacAlister comes a quirky paranormal mystery. There are other worlds with mysteries to solve. Worlds where not all of the suspects are technically alive. The only problem is that Adam, the house's former owner, isn't happy with Karma's plan. Using his poltergeist powers, he seals the place, forcing Karma, Spider, and a motley assortment of characters (living and not-so-living) together for a hair-raising twelve hours. “Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands", she speaks many languages - not all of them human - and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?”
