A weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's theme is the Top Ten Books I Read in 2013 .

This was a hard to pick category because there were so many book I adored this year. Reading almost 400 books in a year will do that to you I guess. It's funny to note, while I read all sorts of different books, all my favorites this year are YA books. Way to go YA authors!

Review - God Save The Queen

Thursday, December 26, 2013

Title: God Save The Queen (#1)
Author: Katie Locke
"Queen Victoria rules with an immortal fist.

The undead matriarch of a Britain where the Aristocracy is made up of werewolves and vampires, where goblins live underground and mothers know better than to let their children out after dark. A world where being nobility means being infected with the Plague (side-effects include undeath), Hysteria is the popular affliction of the day, and leeches are considered a delicacy. And a world where technology lives side by side with magic. The year is 2012 and Pax Britannia still reigns.

Xandra Vardan is a member of the elite Royal Guard, and it is her duty to protect the Aristocracy. But when her sister goes missing, Xandra will set out on a path that undermines everything she believed in and uncover a conspiracy that threatens to topple the empire. And she is the key-the prize in a very dangerous struggle."

But Gregory Faa—a member of the Watch—is hot on their heels. A Traveller who has stolen time, he’s eager to prove himself worthy of the Watch, only he has a past with the dark-eyed Welsh beauty he’s been charged with bringing to justice. Review - The Naturals

Saturday, December 21, 2013

Title: The Naturals
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
"Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides— especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own.

Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive."

Title: Curtsies and Conspiracies (Finishing School #2)
Author: Gail Carriger
"Sophronia's first year at Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality has certainly been rousing! For one thing, finishing school is training her to be a spy (won't Mumsy be surprised?). Furthermore, Sophronia got mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and had a cheese pie thrown at her in a most horrid display of poor manners.

Now, as she sneaks around the dirigible school, eavesdropping on the teachers' quarters and making clandestine climbs to the ship's boiler room, she learns that there may be more to a school trip to London than is apparent at first. A conspiracy is afoot--one with dire implications for both supernaturals and humans. Sophronia must rely on her training to discover who is behind the dangerous plot-and survive the London Season with a full dance card."

Finish That Series Challenge

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Paper Bindings | Finish That Series Challenge

I easily have over 100 ebooks and almost 100 actual books in my house waiting for me to read them. Most of these I picked up because they were free, very cheap, or from a local book sale. (Now you know the cause of my book addiction, impulsive shopping.) That's not counting the books I'm getting from the library, buying because I ABSOLUTELY love the series and have to have the latest one, or am borrowing from a friend. All these pretty new books beg to be read.

My reading habits have shifted a bit towards the close of 2013. I've decided I wanted to slow down on reading some of the new authors I have discovered -except, of course, the author provided copies I am reading for review- and focus on reading the authors I know I love already. At least until I reach a hurtle on my TBR list.
